The purpose of the Sacri Monti, is to offer the faithful a path of meditation and prayer that goes through the visual representation of life. The religious path through Varese and Ticino landscape due to their proximity. Are added to the chapels churches and shrines usually able to accommodate the pilgrims.

The sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso in Orselina above Locarno is for example the most famous place of pilgrimage in the Italian part of Switzerland. It is rooted in the ancient tradition of votive gifts.The Sanctuary Sacro Monte Madonna del Sasso is opened to the public after the renovation.

Guided tour of Sacro Monte Varese
Among the most picturesque routes for the interplay between environment and spirituality, there is the obligatory stop at the Sacro Monte, the nine Sacred Mountains foothills of the Alps of Piedmont and Lombardy recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2003.

WALKING from Velate, Rasa and along the "Via Sacra" (uphill cobblestone promenade of 2,000 meters with 14 stations) from the arc that starts at "First Chapel"
BY BUS using the local line "C" (Tel. 0039 199 153 155) area stations - Moro Course - Via Veratti - Viale Aguggiari
BY CAR (0 MOTORCYCLE BIKE 0) coming from the center follow the signs straight ahead you enter the town and after a discussion with a first tree in the center at the traffic lights turn right and continue on via Veratti Aguggiari avenue for about 2 km along the road road leading to the Campo dei Fiori passing the hamlets of S. Ambrose, Robarello, Fogliaro, First Chapel.
WITH CABLE CAR (Tel. 0039 0332 225 549), whose departure station can be reached by the First Chapel with the bus or walk (1.5 km)

A visit to the Sacro Monte of Madonna del Sasso
The historical destination of the first tourists in the Locarno area
Tradition has it that a friar called Bartolomeo d’Ivrea from the Franciscan monastery in Locarno decided to build a place of worship on a summit near the city after a vision that he had in 1480. He constructed two small oratories. They were subsequently extended and a monastery was added. A large number of ex-votos and memorial plaques cover the walls of the church and the sanctuary.

Useful Information:
The Sanctuary has been reopened to the public following the completion of restoration work.
Opening hours: 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Funicular railway times: Every day, from 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Transfer: travel by train or car to Locarno station. From there, the traditional funicular railway will take you to Orselina in just a few minutes
A stroll in Ascona
Exploring the “pearl of Lake Maggiore”
Ascona is the lowest settlement in Switzerland. It stands at 196 metres above sea level, on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. It is famous for its mild climate, its old town centre and the Mediterranean feel of the lakeside promenade with its outdoor cafés. It is definitely worth paying a visit to the narrow streets of Ascona’s old town centre, where the distinctive, squat houses have beautiful doorways.
